How are ‘Jaari 2’ and ‘Man Binako Dhan’ Performing at the Box Office?
The Nepali box office has remained lively since the Dashain festival. During Dashain and Tihar, Nepali films collectively earned around NPR 29 crore. Even after the major festivals, new releases are showing encouraging performances. Last week’s release Paran is heading toward becoming a superhit, while this week’s releases Jaari 2 and Man Binako Dhan have also opened strongly.
Among the two Friday releases, Jaari 2 received the highest number of shows and achieved about 70% occupancy nationwide on its first day. The audience turnout increased further on Saturday, with the film reportedly achieving 100% occupancy in more than 60% of available shows across the country. Its Saturday earnings are estimated to have more than NPR 1.5 crore.
Despite getting fewer shows, Man Binako Dhan also performed well. On Friday, the film recorded around 50% occupancy, which rose to 70–75% on Saturday. Audiences were seen flocking to the theaters in large numbers, and in some towns, people even reserved vehicles to travel to nearby halls to watch the movie.
After two successful opening days, the film’s business from Sunday onward will be crucial. From now on, positive word-of-mouth will determine their box office performance. However, early reactions shared by audiences on social media appear to be mixed.
Jaari 2, directed by Upendra Subba, is based on Limbu culture and the Maoist armed conflict, and features Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Vijay Baral, Richa Sharma, Pushkar Gurung, Prem Subba, Anil Subba, and Rekha Limbu.
Man Binako Dhan, directed by Tank Budathoki, is inspired by the life story of young singer Ashok Darji, who also plays the lead role in the film.
