Movie ‘Jaari 2’ Extended by 14 Minutes, ‘Director’s Cut’ Version in Theaters from Tuesday

The Nepali film ‘Jaari 2: Song of Chamburung’, which has been performing well at the domestic box office, has been extended by 14 minutes. The production team submitted the updated version for censorship on Monday evening. The film’s total runtime is now 2 hours and 21 minutes, up from the original 2 hours and 7 minutes. This new version is being released as the ‘Director’s Cut’.

According to reports, the filmmakers have re-edited several old scenes and added new footage before the climax. Director Upendra Subba stated that audiences will be able to watch the new version in theaters starting Tuesday. He believes the additional scenes will allow viewers to develop a deeper emotional connection with the story.

Released last Friday, the film opened with a box office collection of around NPR 1 crore. It earned NPR 1 crore 21 lakh on the second day and maintained a steady occupancy rate nationwide on Sunday. However, the overall audience feedback has been somewhat mixed, leading to a slower-than-expected growth in earnings. The team now hopes the extended version will revitalize audience interest.

Set against the backdrop of Limbu culture and the armed conflict era, the film stars Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Buddhi Tamang, Vijay Baral, Richa Sharma, Pushkar Gurung, Prem Subba, Anil Subba, Rekha Limbu, and Sirjana Ninglékhu. Sanjay Lama is the cinematographer.

‘Jaari 2’ serves as the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster ‘Jaari’, which became one of Nepal’s most successful films of that year.
