Director Gyanendra Deuja is gearing up for the production of the sequel to his superhit film Jhingedaau. The shooting for Jhingedaau 2 is scheduled to begin on Mangsir 15 (around late November). The cast includes popular actors Keki Adhikari, Aanchal Sharma, and Kushal Bista, among others.

Initially, actor Mukun Bhusal was expected to reprise his role in the sequel. However, director Deuja has confirmed that Bhusal will no longer be part of the project. “Mukun Bhusal is no longer in the film; I have removed him from the project,” Deuja said, without disclosing the reason behind the decision.

Deuja added that Mahesh Tripathi has been signed as Bhusal’s replacement and will portray Keki Adhikari’s husband in the movie.

Released in 2022 (2079 BS), the first Jhingedaau film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over NPR 4 crore at the domestic box office. The sequel will reportedly pick up the story right where the first part ended – after the mother leaves for an old age home following intense family conflict between her sons and daughters-in-law.

According to Deuja, Jhingedaau 2 will once again be set in a rural backdrop, staying true to the tone of the original film. The team is currently working on set construction, which involves recreating traditional village homes and environments, a process that the director says requires a significant budget.

The filmmakers are aiming to release the sequel around next year’s Dashain festival.
